There is Kawayu Sumo Memorial Hall that exhibits his achievements established from his boyhood until his retirement in the year 48 of the Shouwa era. During 1960s, "Eco- Museum", united ecology with museum, was begun in French with the growth of the concern on environment. By the museum, this concept also combines nature with culture in the city and in a whole society. "Kawayu Eco Museum Center" gives you the information about nature and works as the base to consider the relationship between human and environment by enjoying with nature. |

| Kawayu Sumo Memorial Hall The 48th Yokozuna, Mr. Kouki Taihou, who used to spend his childhood in Kawayu in Teshikaga town, was the hero for boys. (He is the master now.) The Kawayu Sumo Memorial Hall built for his achievements has about 250 exhibits like the photos from his boyhood and his official uniform, Keshou Mawashi. The movie shows his glorious golden era as well. | Lake Mashuu The Lake of Mashuu has been known as a misty and transparent lake so that the mysteriousness of the lake is more emphasized. The lake is 19.6km2 in area. The girth of the lake is 20km, and the deepest point is 212m. The water in this lake is the most transparent to a depth of 38.5m in the world. The water level is never changed as there is no river flowing to the lake and out from there. This mysterious phenomenon occurs because of the ground water vein flowing to the bottom of the lake and out from there. The island, "Kamuisshu", floating on the lake, also emphasizes the mysteriousness of the lake.  Lake KussharoThe Lake Kussharo is the biggest caldera lake formed by decreasing of the pressure of magma because of the eruption of the mountain around there about 30,000 years ago in Japan. The girth of the lake is 57km, the deepest point is 117.5m and the area is 79.7km2. The lake is the sixth biggest lake in Japan. Near the cobalt blue lake, Lake Kussharo, there are many popular leisure spots, such as hot springs and camp places unlike the area around the Lake of Mashuu. In winter, swans come to the lake because of the hot spring. During the coldest period from February to March, the natural phenomenon called "Omiwatari" occurs by rising up the frozen ice on the lake with the dynamic sound. The meaning of "Omiwatari" is the road for gods. Bihoro Pass The view from the observatory at the Bihoro Pass is fantastic! You would enjoy the magnificent panorama of the caldera of Kussharo and Mt. | Hairy Crab (July〜August) The shell is so thin that it is easy to be eaten. This is the most delicious crab and has been popular as the king of the taste in Hokkaido. King Crab(April〜July) This crab makes you satisfied with just one leg of him. It is nice both to eat as fresh slice and to grill with soy sauce and Japanese alcohol as "Yaki- Taraba." Spotted Crab(August〜September) Snow Crab(November〜February) The taste is so delicate that the best way to eat it is as fresh slice. Diamond Dust Party The Kawayu hot spring is the famous place to observe the phenomenon of the diamond dust.
