  ― Nature ― Mt. Taisetsu is located in the center of Hokkaido and is called "the roof of Hokkaido." Mt. Taisetsu is actually a generic name of the ranges of the mountains, such as Mt. Asahi (2,290m) and Mt. Hakuun (2,230m). Sounkyou is 230,000 ha in area and has the biggest national mountain park in Japan. The park is as same size as Kanagawa Prefecture. The Ainu used to call Mt. Taisetsu "Kamuimintara." (It means that it is the place to play for the God.) The flower garden and the moor can be seen only in Mt. Taisetsu. The hillside and the foot of the mountain command the scene of a confider forest. The mountain is also the habitat of the rare animals, such as Brown bear, Yezo deer, Black woodpecker, Blakiston's fish-owl, and the kind of rabbit, "Nakiusagi". It has been said that Asiatic Pika is a living relic of the ice age. |

| The City of Asahikawa is located against the sublime mountain of Taisetsu. Asahikawa is the second biggest city in Hokkaido with a population of 365,000. The Hokkaido Asahikawa Art Museum The project exhibition of the woodwork is held and the special exhibition is organized to introduce the various artworks brought within and outside from Hokkaido. Tenninkyou, The Hagoromo Falls Tenninkyou is the ravine with a precipitous cliff formed by the River Chuubetsu coming from the mountain range of Taisestu. In Tenninkyou, the Hagoromo Falls is the best spot for sightseeing. The Hagoromo Falls runs down with a splash jumped up by a height of 270 meters. The falls are the highest falls in Hokkaido and the third highest one in Japan.The stream of the falls running down along seven precipices is like a celestial robe of an angel. The Ropeway in Sounkyou and The Lift of Kurodake You could go to the fifth stage by the ropeway and reach the seventh point that is 1,700 meters above by the lift. The sublime view of Mt. Taisetsu would definitely make you impressed. The Ropeway of Mt. Asahi Mt. Asahi is the main mountain in the range mountain of Tisetsu and is 2,290 meters above. You could go to the fifth stage by the ropeway. You would enjoy seeing alpine floras in summer and the colored leaves in autumn. If you are lucky, you may see the kind of rabbit, "Nakiusagi". |
